Course Description
This course is designed for individuals seeking a thorough foundation in the safe and effective use of the carbine for defensive applications. Whether you’re new to the rifle platform or looking to build disciplined fundamentals, this class delivers essential skills through a blend of classroom instruction and structured live fire drills.
Students will learn critical elements such as stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger control, breath control, and follow-through—tailored specifically for the carbine. In addition, participants will practice core manipulations like reloads and malfunction clearing, all grounded in a framework of deliberate, repeatable technique. The course begins and ends with qualification to objective standards, giving students clear benchmarks to track their progress.
This class focuses on foundational rifle skills and does not include sling work or positional shooting. It prepares students for future defensive rifle and team tactics training.

- Review of carbine safety and SDA handling protocols
- Zeroing the rifle and understanding mechanical offset
- Proper grip, stance, and rifle mounting techniques
- Sight picture and sight alignment for red dots and irons
- Trigger control and follow-through at speed
- Emergency and tactical reloads
- Basic malfunction clearance (Type 1 & Type 2)
- Dry fire drills and structured home practice
- Recoil management and shot-to-shot control
- Timed standards, performance metrics, and qualification

GEAR REQUIREMENTS
To ensure safety and maximize the learning experience, all students must arrive with the following gear:
SAFETY
- Ballistic-rated eye protection (ANSI Z87+ or MIL-PRF standard)
- Electronic hearing protection (no foam plugs)
WEAPON
- Quality, safe, semi-automatic handgun (9mm preferred)
- Ammunition: Minimum 500 rounds of 9mm FMJ or frangible
GEAR
- Pistol carrying case or range bag
- (All firearms must arrive bagged and unloaded unless active duty law enforcement.)
- Minimum 3 magazines
- OWB double mag carrier
- OWB hard polymer holster (No Serpa, leather, or soft/fabric holsters allowed)
- Sturdy gun belt capable of supporting holster and mags
- Notepad and pen for taking notes
APPAREL
- Durable pants and closed-toe shoes (no shorts or sandals)
- Tactical shoes or boots with good grip for muddy terrain
- All-weather clothing (training continues rain or shine)
HEATH AND COMFORT
- Sunscreen
